Murudis Lunch Home in Chintadripet, Chennai, is a legend in the vegetarian dining scene, boasting a rich history since 1954. Patrons rave about its consistent quality and generous hospitality, with the current owner personally ensuring that the legacy of great food continues. The restaurant serves a diverse menu featuring mouth-watering dishes like onion rava dosa, masala dosa, pongal, and vada, all served on traditional banana leaves.
Regulars highlight the sambar and chutney, which are both abundant and flavorful, enhancing the overall experience. Coffee lovers are in for a treat; the coffee here has received enthusiastic praise. While the ambiance inside is pleasant and the service prompt, the location, unfortunately, poses some concerns. Being adjacent to a fish market, guests have noted occasional unpleasant odors that contradict the exquisite food quality.
Despite the slight drawback of its environment, Murudis Lunch Home remains a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic vegetarian South Indian cuisine. The taste and quality of food justify the slightly higher prices, ensuring it secures a place on your culinary checklist.

A legendary food outlet that dates back to 1954..the food quality and hospitality intact.. The owner is the second generation manager for the place and a foodie himself.. Put it on your must do list and savor the sambar and onion rava dosa
Tasty Food, But Poor Location We've tried several dishes here — poori, masala dosa, pongal, idli, and vada — and all were delicious. The coffee is excellent and definitely a must-try. I’ve been a regular visitor for years, and the quality of food has always been consistent. The ambiance is pleasant, and though it's right on the main road, the interior remains quite clean and well-kept. This is a 100% vegetarian hotel, and the food is served traditionally on banana leaves, which adds to the experience. Chutney and sambar are served generously and without limit. The staff is polite and service is prompt. While the prices are slightly higher compared to similar restaurants, the quality justifies it to an extent. However, one major drawback is the location — being right next to a fish market, there’s often a strong unpleasant smell in the area. It’s surprising and disappointing, especially for a vegetarian restaurant. The environment outside doesn’t match the quality of the food inside. Overall: Great food, good service, but unfortunately in a poorly chosen location.
One of the oldest restaurants in this area. Good and tasty food. AC Party hall is available.
